Castillos is the third most populated center of the Rocha department, called the "butiacera city" (the city of butiá), for the fruit of the palms that, in the month of April when already ripe, is collected and used to make the exquisite Butiá liquor , typical of these lands.
The city stands out for its art; walking around its streets, the visitor will marvel at the paintings that adorn the facades of houses and walls, which were made in 2001 by local artists and declared of departmental and national interest; and will be moved by the various exhibitions of paintings and handicrafts that can be seen at the Casa de la Cultura (Culture House). The Beltrán Pérez Museum invites you to know a little more about the indigenous populations that inhabited these places.
