El Caracol is a seaside resort located on the shores of Laguna Garzón, immediately after crossing the new Laguna Garzón bridge, extending several kilometers to the east. It has a privileged coastline with great scenic value, the land boundaries have sold vertiginously in recent years, ensuring the future urban development of the place. Several rural establishments were sold and have become showy tourist farms.
Since 1976, this territory together with others in the departments of Rocha, make up the so-called Bañados del Este Biosphere Reserve.
