Whale viewpoint in the Cerro de la Virgen

Cerro de la Virgen en La Aguada Beach

The Cerro de la Virgen or dune of the Virgin, was so called by the inhabitants of the area, because for many years there was an image of the Virgin Mary, made by the plastic artist of La Paloma Alfredo Cuello. On Costanera Tabaré Avenue, it is the highest point between La Aguada and Costa Azul. Due to its elevation, the landscape is magnified, becoming one of the best natural viewpoints of whales of Rocha. There is a wooden platform with benches to be more comfortable.
In addition, the days of good waves to surf in La Aguada, is a meeting point for surfers and those who like this sport to observe the running waves from a strategic place.

Wonderful and clear sunrises over the ocean can be contemplated from this viewpoint. On the hill to the northeast, you can see in the distance the seaside resort La Pedrera, and to the southeast the breakwaters and La Paloma Port.
